Beware of HEAT DAMAGE!

Hi all,

So big NEWS just in, Hot off the presses! We ALL know the harm of relaxers but do we really understand the harm of heat damage? Just to clue you in, its affects can be traumatizing to your locks, and defeat for your natural curls. How do I know? Because my hair is living proof!

I have told my story before but just to recap...Beyonce's weaves were reincarnate on my head for years! If she was the Weave Queen then I was her protege! My weaves were big, long, and HOT! So was the flat iron I used daily to straighten the front of my hair. Blending my natural curls with my weaves daily = Heat!

Once I was done with the weaves I began my natural hair journey but I still blow dried my hair a few times a month and straightened for length checks = Heat! I still sat under hooded dryers for roller sets = Heat!

The result are limp curls.

I made the picture large so you could see all the straight pieces. Now I am on a no heat journey along with a waist length challenge. I would rather long curls than long straight hair. Heat damage can come from flat irons, curling irons, blow dryers, even hooded dryers.

The answer is to stop these things if you want to have bouncy luscious curls. The fact is straight hairs among your curls is not cute.

So the damage is done what do I do now?
  • I got a trim (3 inches of heat damage gone)
  • Now I stop the heat styling all together.
  • I do routine deep conditions once a week to bring back moisture.
  • I do a protein treatment every 6 weeks to bring structure back to my curls.
  • I do braids and twist to remind my hair of its natural curl
But I still want to wear my hair straight sometime what do I do?

Do roller sets. Once you have set your hair with curlers use a hooded dryer on low or medium heat to dry.

Or you can use the low or medium heat setting and dry your hair for only half the time and allow your hair to air dry the rest of the way.

I would rather have long beautiful natural curls than ratty looking curls. If you are still at a lose get a wig and rock it like its your hair!
